Meet Genia Wright

DSC04633.jpg

After the end of her long-running YouTube Show, The Scandalous Scandal Recap, Genia partnered with her siblings Aubrey and Brittany Wright, to launch The Wright Perspective, a biweekly podcast where they recap and review some of America’s favorite shows and movies. Because these siblings don’t have much in common beyond DNA, the featured content is diverse, and the discussion includes both humorous and serious debate and analysis.

Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, Genia brings a similar mixture of rigor and levity to her writing. Whether it is a sketch highlighting the many faux racial equity initiatives in the nonprofit sector or an essay examining the trope of the Black Superwoman, Genia uses her proverbial pen to explore topics that are timely and important.

Genia also helps social justice organizations to increase their efficiency and impact. Most recently, she has served as Interim Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations for Race Forward, the nation’s largest multiracial racial justice organization; Chief Operating and Financial Officer at the Vera Institute of Justice, a social justice organization working to build and improve justice systems that ensure fairness, promote safety, and strengthen communities; and Chief Operating Officer at Legal Services NYC, the largest civil legal services provider in the country.

Prior to moving to New York, Genia led operations for two separate research centers of the Urban Institute, a leading economic and social policy research organization; and provided operational strategy and support for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the Community Relations departments of Freddie Mac and Target Corporation.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Genia holds a BA in Public Relations/Business Administration from Howard University; a Master of Public Administration/Nonprofit Management from the George Washington University; two Masters Certificates in Contracts Administration from Villanova University; and the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute.

Genia was trained in improv, sketch, characters, and television writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade, is on the Board of Trustees for the East Harlem Tutoring Program and volunteers with the national NAACP ACT-SO Program.
